Canada's Liberal Party helmed by Justin Trudeau will announce a plan to legalize cannabis in 2018 on April 10th. The goal is to have the plant completely legal for all Canadians over the age of 18 by July 1st, 2018.
There is expected to be little resistance in the house and it should swiftly pass through parliament barring any unforeseen hiccups from the country's Right. In the wake of countless studies showing that Cannabis is less harmful than many other legal chemical substances like alcohol and tobacco, it makes little sense to continue criminalizing the plant; wasting both manpower and real estate as a result of it's demonization.
Canada is moving in the right direction and legalization further legitimizes the country's progressive ideals and signifies that they are ready to end the pointless War on Drugs.
